Sonia Spencer is a textile designer who specialised in fashion
print. The idea of forming a company evolved in 1990 when Sonia
decided to launch Hand-painted china tableware and Bone China
jewellery.
Things ticked along nicely, but the first really big breakthrough
came from a chance meeting with Jamie- Lee Curtis, at the Chelsea
Gift Fair - so smitten was she with Sonia's designs that the actress,
who was in town filming a 'A Fish Called Wanda', immediately commissioned
Sonia to design cufflinks for the entire cast and crew with a
design of Wanda as the main feature.
The next big fish to fry was Libertys, this was a collection designed
by Sonia to incorporate more ocean images including fish and mermaids.
Business then really begun to take off and work flooded in from
companies such as Harrods, John Lewis and Selfridges and the cultural
venues of The Royal Academy and The National Gallery who also
commissioned designs.
The manufacture of their Bone China Cufflinks takes place in Oxford
where all are hand-decorated and created from three separate firings
in a kiln. Signature Cufflinks also features one of Sonia Spencer's
latest products, the new 'Chunky Domed' Cufflinks, which are created
from heavy cast silver links with a high quality scanned image.
